File size is the size of the files that your ad server will have to host. For example HTML5 zips or image only creatives that are not served by a tag.
Understanding what are hosted and mixed-load ads:
- Hosted ads: Ads that are primarily hosted, with only essential files (e.g., tags or small scripts) served from the server. Any additional assets loaded externally will appear under "Remote Assets."
- Mixed-load ads: Ads that combine hosted and remote elements, like an HTML index file with additional assets loaded from external sources.
This article only covers the subject of Hosted file size. For more information regarding Remote load (total/polite/sub load), please see this article: Display QA | Remote load - total load vs polite load
Hosted file size settings in Advalidation
In Advalidation, you may set the Max file size in kb based on either of these Size definitions for hosted HTML5 zips:
- The sum of individual filesizes (recommended) - with this setting Adval checks the max file size against the sum of all assets once uncompressed.
- The filesize of the uploaded zipfile - with this setting Adval checks the max file size against the uploaded compressed zip file itself, before decompression.
Advalidation's recommendation
We recommend using this setting when you are hosting files on your ad server, in order to set a maximum and optimise bandwidth and performance.
When using this test/check, we recommend selecting the sum of individual filesizes rather than the filesize of the uploaded zipfile.
